We’ve already talked about the American-isation of various corners of our society. In my opinion, we need not be hysterical about the American-isation of our dinner tables. This is true unless there is any aerosol cheese involved: that is a crime against humanity, deserving of a session at The Hague.

I will spend my life trying to emulate my grandmother’s Apple Pie. She made apple pie. Full stop. This isn’t hers, but it’s a pretty darn good pie (even if I do say so myself). And being July 4th next week, we thought we’d help you celebrate.

This pie cooks beautifully straight from the freezer.  Put it straight into your moderately hot oven for around 60mins.  Or you can defrost it in the fridge overnight and cook it in around 25-30mins.

Loaded with granny smiths which we lovingly peeled, sliced, spiced and cooked. I cannot explain the disappointment of a beautiful pie filled with raw apple… so we won’t have that.  Wrapped in our homemade sweet shortcrust it’s a must have for a holiday winter evening in.

Ingredients: Apple, flour, butter, caster sugar, icing sugar, egg, cinnamon, ground cloves

Contains gluten, dairy, egg.
